What is Wakaf?
Types of Wakaf:
- Traditional – Endowment of tangible assets such as land, buildings, or other physical properties
- Cash – Money or financial assets or instruments instead of donating physical assets.
- Multi-Asset – Endowments that include a combination of both tangible assets (such as land or buildings) and financial assets (such as cash or securities)
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him
(for the deceased).

WMS Beneficiaries
Wakaf uplifts and benefits every member of the Singapore Muslim Community. As a wakif, your intention must be clear wen you set up your Wakaf. This includes identifying and specifying beneficiaries that are aligned to pious, religious, and charitable causes.
By indicating a mosque as your Wakaf beneficiary, you help to:
Promote the mosque’s longevity by footing expenses incurred in the enhancement and enlargement of the mosque building and premises, among others
Sustain the administration and management of the mosque
Preserve the observance of Islamic rites and ceremonies
With madrasahs as a Wakaf beneficiary, the income generated help to:
Perpetuate Islamic education by sponsoring the education of our future religious leaders
Sustain madrasahs through funding their maintenance and upkeep so that students can enjoy a conducive and comfortable learning environment
Bolster the financial resilience of madrasahs by providing a sustainable source of income to pay for their key educational programmes and operations
Wakafs can provide financial assistance to Muslim organisations and community help groups running programmes to assist the poor, needy, and the vulnerable This may be through financing of burial costs, provision of necessities, or medical services Traditional wakaf may also benefit relatives of the wakifs throughout generations with a portion of the income
Promote the mosque’s longevity by footing expenses incurred in the enhancement and enlargement of the mosque building and premises, among others

InsyaAllah my donation to WMS can be useful for the community. I hope to see what impact WMS can bring!
I contributed to WMS in the hope that Allah places barakah in my rezeki. Though I may not live to see its full impact, I trust that WMS will benefit future generations of our Muslim community beyond my lifetime.
I contributed in my daugher's name to inculcate the culture of giving and to educate her about the special virtue of wakaf, which is perpetual rewards. May Allah swt accept our deeds and make this wakaf beneficial for the beneficiaries.
The donation is done on behalf of my late mother. I hope this way, it can be counted as a form of sadaqah jaariyah for her. May she be placed amongst the pious Ameen!
I may not be able to change the world, but I can play a small part in strengthening it. Supporting WMS felt meaningful because it supports future generations. It’s my way of leaving something good behind InsyaAllah.
My father always believed in helping others not just for ourselves. Contributing to WMS felt like continuing his values in a way that will outlast me. Knowing this wakaf benefits the community after I’m gone give me quiet comfort.
Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions before making your contribution?
We’ve answered the most common ones so you can give with confidence and peace of mind.
Existing community funds are currently stretched to meet the immediate needs of running our institutions. Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund (MBMF) and mosque donation box contributions are projected over time to decline as our population ages.
Current Wakafs also serve specific beneficiaries and may not meet emerging needs.
WMS will generate long-term returns, complementing existing community funds as MBMF and mosque donation boxes.
Donations given to non-wakaf funds are generally utilised immediately in the short-medium term. For Wakaf donations, only the income generated from the initial contribution are disbursed. Each fund serves specific beneficiaries.
As a Wakaf, WMS aims to generate a perpetual source of income to serve the long-term needs of the Singapore Muslim community. All contributions to WMS are pooled to form a corpus. The corpus will be preserved and invested. Only the returns from the investments will be distributed to beneficiaries.
Donations to WMS are not tax deductible.
